Following its five-month worldwide closure due to the global pandemic, AMC will finally reopen a select few of its theaters on August 20. As such, the theater will run a promotion called “Movies in 2020 at 1920 Prices.” As an ode to the year AMC opened its first locations, the company will offer tickets for 15 cents when theaters reopen August 20. Films such as Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes BackBack to the FutureGhostbustersGreaseBlack Panther, and the 10th-anniversary screenings of Inception will be shown. New movies like The New Mutants and Tenet are slated to arrive in theaters August 28 and September 3, respectively after extensive delays for both films.

Theaters are expected to open in select cities, mostly in areas with a lower spread of coronavirus and where state officials allow. AMC also announced a slew of new rules and regulations that will be enforced when doors open, including mandatory masks for everyone. Areas will be clean and socially distant, meaning advanced cleaning procedures like MERV-13 air filters in the HVAC systems will be installed in most theaters. Also, the seating capacity will be reduced during screenings to maintain social distancing.

AMC Theatres has faced several obstacles to keep itself afloat as the leading theater-chain in the industry since it first closed due to COVID-19. The company has considered reopening theaters several times, however, this is the closest we’ve gotten to an opening date without getting an announcement of further delays.
